Read Radio Show
Authors
Read is 15 minutes in duration offering authors a chance
to read from their published work for up to 12 minutes.
There is nothing like hearing a story told the way the author
intended it to be read… straight from the author’s
lips is even better! Listeners are able to experience a
snipet of each featured author, poet or story teller to
determine if the writing appeals to them or to someone on
their gift-giving list. Authors Reads also offers familes
the opportuntiy to gather around together to experience
children's authors reading their books on the radio.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Q.
What genres or readings do you allow?
A.
Playwrites, storytellers, poets and writers of most genres
are welcome to apply. No religion - No heavy swearing ("damn"
is okay but f**k is definitely not okay) - No politics -
No racisim - No erotica scenes allowed... we don't want
anything offensive for our international audience here.
Q.
Is it true that you have contests for your listeners and
blog readers?
A.
Yes, we have contests occassionally announced on the Brummet's
Conscious Blog. We welcome prize offerings that promote
conscious living from businesses or individuals. If you
have a product ( a book, green beauty or health product,
service, CD/DVD…etc) that encourages conscious living
we’d love to consider it as a prize. People enter
by emailing me and winners are chosen at random. There’s
no limitation to the number of times a person can win and
we never, ever use email or mailing addresses for any other
means than this contest.
Q.
How do people listen to Authors
Read radio show?
A.
Listeners can hear the LIVE broadcast via their computer
simply by going to the site and clicking on "click
to listen" button. They can also call in to hear the
show - but we do not bring listeners into the show to ask
questions... anyone in the switchboard will be there to
listen, not participate. That is why it is so important
that we have the guest's # so that the host can recognize
them in the switchboard.
For the LIVE broadcast, there will be a chat room available.
People can click on the button for the chat room on the
Authors
Read website. If they register as a listener ( http://www.blogtalkradio.com/register.aspx
) they can participate in the chat by using their keyboard.
Otherwise they'll show up as a "guest" and will
only be able to watch what is happening in the chat room.
Either is fine, people do both.
Chat rooms and email communications during the LIVE broadcast
add a whole new element to the radio show.
Those who cannot make the live broadcast may choose to access
the ARCHIVED broadcast at any time of the day, anywhere
in the world in a variety of ways. People can use their
computer to visit the website and choose to play any episode
that appeals to them from there. They can click on the pause
button (upper right of the website) if they are looking
to browse the site instead - or open a new browser window
to follow up on sites while listening to the show. Listeners
also have the option of choosing to download any archived
broadcast to computer, to CD, or any mp3 player (ipod, iphone...)
and they can subscribe (itunes, etc).
Archived
broadcasts are listed according to the month in which they
aired. The list goes all the way back to June 2008 and you
can find the archives on the right side of the website,
underneath the links.
Q.
As hosts of the Authors
Read radio show, what do you look for in a guest?
A. We look for someone who is looking forward to reading
their work with their own voice - sharing a unique experience
of their published book with readers. In turn readers experience
a snippet of that book, which can influence their decision
as to whether it appeals to them or not. Because our time
is limited, we prefer authors who have their information
prepared and submitted in a timely fashion.
Q. What do you want to know
about potential guests?
A. We do not require a physical copy of the published work
- nor do we feel that past experience or previous interviews
is required for this program. People who want to appear
on our show as a featured guest simply query us.
Q.
What is your idea of an undesirable / desireable guest?
A. Clearing of throats, typing on a keyboard, coughing in
the phone, call waiting services and excessive background
noise during a live broadcast are all disruptive. It is
also offensive to listeners when a guest breathes into the
phone or has the phone so close to their mouth that “f’s”,
“p’s”, “s’s” and “sh’s”
sounds become offensive and abrasive. We prefer guests that
have their information in a easy-to-use format and provide
everything we need - saving us time and resources.
Guests
must record the booking in their calendar and call in on
time. Guests need to be aware of their time zone and do
the proper conversions. It is preferable if the guest is
also willing to promoting their segment through their website,
blog or newsletter and forums or networking sites they may
frequent.
Q.
What determines if guests are invited back?
A. We have invited guests to appear again in future shows
if they have more published books that they would like to
read from and share with the audience.
Q.
What do you need from guests?
A. We do not need a physical copy of the published work-
However a copy of the piece the author plans on reading
(via email) will be required. Authors can call in live,
or they can submit an MP3. Authors need to provide a bio,
phone number and website address.
*
Guests must provide any requested materials within 2 weeks
of confirming a booking on the program and they must call
in on time.
Q.
What happens if a guest emails you and you don't respond
immediately - should the person email or call you?
A. No. We always respond even if it is to say "no thanks".
However, if the person has experienced technical glitches
with their Internet server or computer, or perhaps they
are worried the email did not to through because of an attachement
they may have sent - they can write and explain this, and
we would understand that.
Q.
What are some of the pet peeves that you have when it comes
to queries?
A. When someone writes asking us to promote them or writes
a query letter in an unprofessional manor, we are unlikely
to respond in a positive way. Guests should be aware what
their own time zone is and not pester the host with questions
like how long the show is when that information is available
on the program’s website and in the information package
that approved guests receive. If the applicant hasn’t
listened to the program, read our communications with them
or researched the site, it shows.
Q.
How can a guest help promote their segment?
A.The Brummets work very hard to promote each segment and
appreciate proactive guests. There is no doubt that it is
always in the best interest of the guest to promote the
broadcast they will be involved with. Consider simple things
like: posting on blogs, forums and the guest's own website,
email contact list, small announcements in publications,
submit press releases to newsletters and other publications
that focus on similar subject matter, post on networking
sites like myspace, facebook and twitter.

Guests are responsible for keeping a record of
the booking date, time and call-in number. They must provide
any requested materials within 2 weeks of confirming a booking
on the program and they must call in on time.
